Seminars
The Little Red Writing Workshop
A Seminar and Workshop with Mark Tredinnick

Date: Saturday, 20th March 2010

Seminar: Time: 9.30am – 12.30pm (registration 9.15am)

Workshop: Time 1.30pm – 4.30pm (registration 1.15pm)

Venue: WP YOUNG ROOM located with Veterinary Sciences Conference Centre, University of Sydney

We all write – case notes, papers, books – but do we actually know what we are doing. This seminar and workshop – you can attend either or both – is being run by one of the most inspiring and gifted teachers in Australia, Mark Tredinnick, who is himself a well-known author. It will be an extra-ordinary event. Here is what Mark himself says about the process of writing:

Good writing is talk tidied. Good writing sounds like someone speaking in a voice truer than the voice they use for gossip and scolding—talking to someone they love about something they know. Writing is talking, heightened by art and set down on paper. Literature is divine chatter—the god in you talking with the god in me. (Or, if it’s more functional prose, your best and most orderly self talking at your clearest to a smart person with very little time to spare.)

The Education Subcommittee welcomes you to participate in any or all of these seminars. Please note the new venue for the first two seminars.

The use of a new venue for the first two seminars of the year was unavoidable owing to the unexpected availability of Dr Fosshage in Sydney on 13 March and the late decision to develop Mark Tredinnick’s morning writing presentation into a whole day’s event with a writing workshop in the afternoon.

We regret the collision of dates of Mark Tredinnick’s seminar and workshop with SCIARPP’S video conferencing event on the morning of 20 March. Mark has specifically invited those who cannot attend the morning section of his event to join in the afternoon workshop.

Below is a map detailing how to get to the University of Sydney’s Vet Sciences Conference Centre where both the Webster Theatre and the W P Young Room are located.
